About Us
VILE is a multi-form emerging theatre company created by four best friends, Louisa Cusumano, Ez Kenworthy, Sam Morris and Tom Weinert. All 2023 VCA alumni in acting and theatre, VILE is centred on a profound knowledge of devising, collaboration, unique and personal work, with a focus on horror, drama, comedy and drag. Our work is striking, horny, absurd, totally camp, and a representation of our perception of the uncertain world as young, queer artists.
VILE’s focus is on thorough world-building through visually and thematically striking new works which are shocking, thought-provoking, attentive, political and assault on the senses. Thanks to our expansive array of skills such as costume design and production, film-making, choreography, drag design and performance, audio and visual production, VILE offers high quality, unique productions full of bold choices, attention to detail, and an intertwining of themes and projects to create a cohesive atmosphere to all of our works.
What makes our company different is our diplomatic and equitable approach to theatre making. Each production, our four head artists switch roles to allow each person to lead and direct their own passion project. Those who are not responsible for the creation of a work will assist with design, production, stage management and acting. This ensures that each piece of work we offer to the public is fresh and offers a new perspective, whilst maintaining cohesion through the production’s chemistry as a working ensemble.
Our objective is to cultivate and nurture a community of young artists from all walks of life with an expansive array of skills such as film, music, design and visual art. We understand the complexities of creating work and the obstacles that come with finding an audience, and we hope to give that opportunity to our community and others with bold offers and striking thematic works. Working with VILE would offer opportunities such as local and regional festival runs, distribution of work, networking and creative connection, feedback and collaboration, mentorship, grant and funding assistance, and promotion of artists to a wider community.
